A historical and genealogical society founded to collect and preserve information respecting the early history and settlement of New Netherland by the Dutch.
Our fantastic library at Holland Society headquarters only represents a portion of our collection! The Hugo Grotius collection was purchased by Robert Barnwell Roosevelt from Bom and Bom Book Dealers in Amsterdam in 1890.
The collection consists of 137 historical, legal, theological, and literary works, seventeenth century-nineteenth century publications, some early editions by Grotius, and others published after his death. There is an additional supplement of 146 assorted seventeenth century-nineteenth century Dutch books. The Grotius Collection is currently on deposit in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library of Columbia University. The online catalog is available for view here.
