Before we left our office at 20 W. 44th St., we transferred some of our archival materials to Hudson Archival in Port Ewen, NY. Its mission is “helping archivists to preserve human history.”
We have a treasure trove of old banquet photos from the mid-20th century showing banquets with some 400 attendees at venues such as the Waldorf Astoria. Hudson Archival has begun the process of flattening them out shown below so that they can be imaged and shared. It’s a process that takes months as many of these old photos were stored in tubes for over fifty years.
I visited them in May and left with them for imaging and preservation perhaps the most valuable item in the Society’s archives. Stay tuned. More on that next month!
