William the Silent
Did you know that The Holland Society donated a statue of William the Silent to Rutgers? The statue, a symbol of Dutch independence, stands on the Rutgers campus, adjacent to the Graduate School of Education in New Brunswick. The statue was presented to Rutgers in 1928 by The Holland Society of New York, which deemed it “particularly fitting that the statue should stand on the grounds of the educational institution founded by the descendants of the Netherlands.”
Learn more about the statue’s donation in the October 1928 issue of de Halve Maen.
