Opening Holland Society Library and Office
December 6th, 2024
On Friday, December 6th–St. Nicholas Day!–we officially opened the doors of our new office for invited guests and donors that contributed towards our permanent library and office fundraising campaign.
This is the first time in the Society’s history that we have owned our own physical space, and our new permanent home has been beautifully renovated and turned into a library space for visitors to enjoy. Built-in bookcases have been installed to display the Society’s extensive book collection. The new library also offers visitors a facility to research our archives and an intimate space for in-person lectures and events.
The fundraising campaign has been a wonderful way to celebrate the Society’s uniqueness among other heritage organizations. Our collection of archives, preserving the history of early New York, now finally has its own home and we were excited to welcome our special guests at our space at 161 West 86th Street in the heart of the Upper West Side (appropriately, off Amsterdam Avenue!).
Members and Friends that donated or pledged to our fundraising campaign had a chance to see their name displayed on the donor installation recognizing them for their support of this new chapter in the Holland Society’s history and help in executing the Society’s vision for the future.
Holiday decorations adorned the new office and in honor of St. Nicholas Day, gift bags with a traditional chocolate letter were waiting for our guests when they departed. Society mascot George proudly overlooked the festivities from above!
