Concert: Pearl Earring – Music of the Dutch Golden Age

November 14

The Holland Society is pleased to support the concert “Pearl Earring – Music of the Dutch Golden Age” by the ensemble As The Crow Flies on Thursday November 14th at 1:15pm at St. Malachy’s Church (238 W. 49th St.).

In celebration of the quadricentennial of Dutch in New York (2024), this free concert highlights instrumental music from the late Dutch Golden Age. During this time, the Netherlands enjoyed a confluence of worldly riches, buoyed by a far-reaching trade industry, as well as a high-caliber scientific and artistic community. In this concert, As the Crow Flies presents trio sonatas by Benedictus Buns and Carel Hacquart, which echo the subtle palettes of de Lairesse and Vermeer. Works by Wilhelm and Hellendaal complement the gentle glow of the more nuanced compositions with lively and dazzling technical showmanship. This program seeks to explore the cosmopolitan influences while celebrating the uniquely Dutch qualities of this beautiful music.

The ensemble consists of musicians from the Juilliard School and Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag and is dedicated to exploring and reviving the music of the 17th and 18th centuries.

The performance of Dutch Baroque music is part of the Gotham Early Music Society Midtown Concerts Series (GEMS).
